Online, September 10, 2015 (Newswire.com) - WASHINGTON--In a statement to the JTNC Standards Interface Control Working Group (ICWG), the Wireless Innovation Forum indicated its support of approval by the ICWG of the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) 4.1 Standard. The ICWG voted to approve the Standard during its meeting on 19 August and the JTNC publicly announced the standard availability on 9 Sept (www.jtnc.mil/sca).
"The Wireless Innovation Forum is supportive of adoption by ICWG of the released SCA 4.1 Final Draft, and appreciates the opportunity provided by the JTNC to collaborate in the development of SCA 4.1, especially regarding the normative reference to WINNF-14-S-0016 "IDL Profiles for Platform-Independent Modeling of SDR Applications"
SCA 4.1 provides an architecture framework which facilitates the development of portable software defined radio application software. The revised specification captures the benefits of recent technology advances and is expected to greatly enhance interoperability of communication systems and reduce development and deployment costs.
The support statement follows:
"The Wireless Innovation Forum is supportive of adoption by ICWG of the released SCA 4.1 Final Draft, and appreciates the opportunity provided by the JTNC to collaborate in the development of SCA 4.1, especially regarding the normative reference to WINNF-14-S-0016 "IDL Profiles for Platform-Independent Modeling of SDR Applications," version V2.0.1. The Wireless Innovation Forum believes SCA 4.1 Final Draft exceeds the objectives initially assigned to SCA 4.1 development efforts in terms of better scalability, improved suitability for SWAP-constrained products, increased information assurance, providing a leaner software architecture while preserving backwards compatibility of SCA 2.2.2 based Waveforms." (Provided 14 August 2015)
The Forum's Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards (CC SCA) has been working with the JTNC to develop technical recommendations and WInnF Standards for SCA 4.1 since November 2013. Following the release of the draft standard in February 2015 (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/7959) the CC SCA also adjudicated issues submitted by the general public and submitted subsequent recommendations.
The WInnF Standards developed in support of SCA elaboration are :
- Lw and ULw POSIX AEPs for Resource Constrained Processors, V1.0.1 groups.winnforum.org/d/do/7500
- IDL Profiles for Platform-Independent Modeling of SDR Applications, V2.0.1 groups.winnforum.org/d/do/7967
The WInnF Recommendations submitted to the JTNC include:
- SCA 4.1 Deployment Data (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8207)
- SCA 4.1 Domain Component Type Uniformity (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8206)
- SCA 4.1 Domain Late Registration (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8205)
- DomainManager and DeviceManager instance level property value (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8204)
- SCA 4.1 Allocation Properties (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8203)
- Device Deployment Enhancement (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8292)
- Component Instantiation Name (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8293)
- SCA v4.1 SAD and DCD Uniformity (groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8294)
- Proposals for SCA v4.1 SCA Clarifications (Clarifications 1: groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8295; Clarifications 2: groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8296)
